At Pattison High School, all registered students under the age of 19 are required by Canadian law to have a custodian. The school offers custodianship services to support students and ensure this requirement is met. An authorized custodian provides supervision and care comparable to that of a parent.
Custodians for Pattison High School students are selected by the school and are expected to meet the qualification criteria, assume assigned responsibilities, and comply with all relevant school policies.
Qualifications:
- Patient, caring, and enjoys working with young people
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- At least 25 years of age
- Flexible schedule to fulfill custodial responsibilities
- Valid Canadian Criminal Record Check
- Ability to provide a notarized copy of the standard “Custodianship Declaration” form
- Resides in Canada for at least 90% of the time
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ongoing communication with the homestay family
- Ensuring the homestay family fulfills its responsibilities
- Ongoing communication with the school regarding student supervision and care
- Monitoring student academic progress and reports
- Attending school meetings regarding student performance (e.g., absences, travel, field trips, academic or personal concerns)
- Attending PHS parent-teacher meetings and events
- Ongoing communication with parents
- Ensuring the student’s medical insurance coverage and premium payments are up to date
- Ensuring the student’s study permit and Canadian visa remain valid
